SYNOPSIS
 Hard to imagine, but Tiger Woods started the weekend at Torrey Pines a whopping nine strokes behind Ted Tryba. Of course, that's nothing that a third-round 61 couldn't remedy. Among the highlights was an eagle at the sixth hole where Tiger's 3-wood hit a sprinkler head and bounced onto the green, settling 10 feet from the pin. When he was done, Woods -- who said he was "just trying to make it known that I was coming" -- led Billy Ray Brown by a shot. Woods got off to another stellar start on Sunday, making birdie on three of his first four holes. Brown more than held his own, though, and was tied with Woods as they came to the par-5 18th. Brown went for the green in two only to find the water while Woods' 7-iron settled 10 feet for eagle and the win. "I told you I was close to putting it together," Woods said. "It's been this way for months but nothing has ever gelled. Golf is a wave. You're constantly going up and down, and it's a matter of how fast you get out of a lull. Nothing has changed with my outlook. It's a matter of getting the right breaks at the right time and making your own destiny."
