SYNOPSIS
 Six weeks after uttering the now-famous "Hello, world," Tiger Woods won his first tournament as a professional at the Las Vegas Invitational. He found himself eight strokes behind Keith Fergus after the first of five rounds but made up considerable ground with a 63 in the second. He had climbed into the top 10 by the end of 54 holes, then shot a final-round 64 to get into a playoff with Davis Love III, who drove the par-4 15th and made eagle, then birdied No. 16 to tie Woods. Woods, who had played the par 5s on Sunday in 5 under, won with a two-putt par on the first extra hole after Love failed to get up and down from a greenside bunker. "It's been an unbelievable experience. It's just like winning the Amateur, though," Woods said. "I really can't say what it means until I think about it more." Added Love: "As disappointed as I am, I'm that much happy for him. He's a great, great player, and he's great for the TOUR."
