Q & A: Romo talks Tiger, golf and more

BETHESDA, Md. -- Tony Romo craziness might match, or dare I say surpass, Tiger Woods craziness. That's what happens when you're quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys and you're dating a superstar pop singer.

Romo, a 2-handicap who tried to qualify for the U.S. Open four times, was at Congressional Country Club to participate in Wednesday's pro-am for the AT&T National with the world's No. 1 golfer. Afterward, he joined Woods & Co. for a special military celebration, which included the national anthem being performed by his girlfriend and aforementioned pop star Jessica Simpson. After that, Romo talked to PGATOUR.COM's Brian Wacker for a quick Q&A session.

PGATOUR.COM: You take lessons from Hank Haney and belong to the same club as Tiger's pal Notah Begay III, but this is the first time you and Tiger have played together. Thoughts?

Romo: It was fantastic. Anytime you have an opportunity to pick the brain of someone of the ability and talent of a Tiger Woods, it's a great experience. You learn a lot.

PGATOUR.COM: You play a lot of golf and have tried to qualify for the U.S. Open four times. What's the best score you've ever shot?

Romo: (Scratching head trying to remember) I think a 65, up at a qualifier in Wisconsin. I don't remember where it was exactly, but I think it was a 65.

PGATOUR.COM: Yeah, you play a lot of golf, I'm sure it's easy to lose track of. What's your favorite course?

Romo: Probably Dallas National.

PGATOUR.COM: Homer. What's the one course you'd like to play but haven't?

Romo: Hmm (long pause, since he's played a lot of courses), probably Shinnecock Hills.

PGATOUR.COM: Maybe you can qualify the next time the U.S. Open goes there. You have a dream foursome you'd like play with?

Romo: Just some family friends.

PGATOUR.COM: Right, you are Tony Romo after all, you're dating Jessica Simpson and there were paparazzi at the airport -- despite us being in Redskins territory, there are a ton of Cowboys fans out there.

Romo: Yeah, they're everywhere. It's pretty insane.

PGATOUR.COM: Thanks for your time.
