Overview: Americans Jim Furyk and Justin Leonard put in a laser-like performance with a bogey-free 4-under performance to beat Ernie Els and Adam Scott in 16 holes. The U.S. team missed just one fairway and one green and gained control of the match on the back nine. The Internationals took the early lead with an Els birdie putt at the par-5 fifth, but the Americans answered with a birdie on the next hole, thanks to a nice approach shot by Leonard that landed within eight feet of the pin to set up Furyk's birdie putt. Els/Scott bogeyed the next hole to give the U.S. the lead, but they squared the match again with a birdie at the eighth, Els rolling in a 10-1/2 foot putt. But on the back nine, the Internationals bogeyed the 10th and 12th holes to go 2 down. Another bogey by the Internationals at the 15th was the final nail. Leonard and Furyk halved their previous Foursome match against Retief Goosen and Y.E. Yang.
Key moment: With the match all square through the front nine, Jim Furyk rolled in a birdie putt of 16 feet, 9 inches, the Americans' third birdie of the day. That put the U.S. 1 up, and they never trailed after that.
Quotes: "It was a lot of fun. We played more like we were supposed to today versus yesterday. But you know, we just wore them down and that was our game plan, to put the ball in play, keep giving ourselves putts at it. And Jim was able to make a few and that made the difference." -- Justin Leonard
"I love playing with Justin. I think we make a good Foursome team." -- Jim Furyk
